There is no law that bans Saudi Arabian women from driving. Women being allowed to drive "undermines social value".
Some of the reasons why women are banned from driving include:
- Driving a car may require women to uncover their face
- It can lead to interacting with other males like at accidents
- Driving can be the first step towards the erosion of traditional values, which is gender segregation
- If a women starts driving then she will leave the house more often
- Women driving can lead to overcrowding the streets and deprive young men from driving
There was a campaign in 2011 called Women to Drive but it was unsuccessful. Many girls however still so drive without getting caught and they love it. But why should they have to hide and drive?
